Why Are Brown Cats Rare?
Brown cats are relatively rare compared to other colors because the gene that produces brown color is a recessive gene. In order for a cat to be brown, it must have two copies of the brown gene, one from each parent. However, cats can also be carriers of the brown gene, which means they have one copy of the brown gene and one copy of a different color gene. When two carrier cats are bred together, there is a 25% chance that their kittens will be brown.
